5 reasons sleeping naked is good for you

Do you go au natural at night? Are you a commando sleeper? Some people dress up to go to bed and others dress down to their birthday suit. So what is the allure of sleeping in the nude? Here are 5 reasons nude sleep is for you!

1. Stay young

You may not believe this but sleeping in the skip can help you stay young. Well, to be more exact when you are overly hot in bed you can inhibit the release of melatonin, which is a hormone that helps your body regenerate. When you are sleeping in the nude you are less likely to get to hot and will therefore have more youth retaining melatonin coursing through your body.

2. Heal yourself

Not only does melatonin help with keeping you looking young but it is also (along with other hormones released at night), one of the key aspects of healing. When you sleep at night the body has time to repair itself and the hormones that are released help with a range of different restorative functions. When you sleep in the nude you are ensuring that your body can heal itself to the best of its abilities.

3. Save your brain

Another issue with overheating at night is that it can affect your sleep cycles. Studies have found that people who are too hot in bed are less likely to go through the REM stage of sleep properly and it is in this critical stage that your brain is ‘washed’ of all the toxins that build up during the day. Going nude will help save your brain!

4. Burn excess fat

Several other hormones (leptin and ghrelin) play a role in your appetite. When they are out of balance your appetite increases, and you actually crave junk food as well. When you are overly hot in bed you are less likely to get a good night’s sleep and you will find that your leptin and ghrelin levels get out of whack. Take off those pajamas and you will keep your appetite in control!

5. More fun time

Aside from the obvious factor that being naked in bed with your partner is just that much more exciting than when you are both wearing thick pajamas but it has been shown that skin on skin touching actually stimulates the production of a hormone called oxytocin, which is a key hormone in sexual responsiveness and orgasms. So yes, sleeping in the nude can help you with your sex life, which is a pretty good reason on its own.

While some of these are naturally neutralised if you live somewhere like Alaska where the temperatures are often below zero, here in Australia we have no excuses. With the nightly heat and all the above benefits, you need to say goodbye to your pajamas now!
