Every year millions of people make new year’s resolutions, though most of these are either immediately forgotten or quickly discarded. If you are going to make one resolution and keep it then make it that you are going to sleep well for the year. Sleeping is an incredibly important aspect of our wellbeing and simply sleeping well can have a wide range of positive physical and mental benefits.
There are a number of simple keys to sleeping well. The first is to develop and stick to a sleep routine. Go to bed around the same time each night and get up at the same time. The body craves routine and by sticking to a schedule you will find getting to sleep and getting out of bed far easier.
Another simple thing you can do is make sure your bedroom is a sleep inducing environment. It should be dark, quiet and well ventilated. Get rid of any distractions and treat this space as a place for sleep only.
Diet is another key to sleeping well. There are a number of foods and drinks that encourage sleep so make sure you are eating and drinking those while avoiding others and the quality and quantity of your sleep will improve.
