Thomas Edison was a big power napper

04-04-2013

Thomas Edison was one of the key figures in the development of electricity as a public utility, helping take it from a magic like novelty to something that people had in their homes and used every day. He was a dynamic inventor who held a record number of patents in a number of different areas and one of his secrets to success was power napping.

Edison was a big proponent of the power of the power nap. At night he rarely slept more than 3 or 4 hours, considering any more a waste of time. He made up for any sleep deficit by power napping during the day when he started to feel tired.

Edison, as the man who brought the light bulb into homes around the world, is the man who is fingered at as the single person who changed humanity’s sleeping habits, the artificial light allowing us to go to bed later and reducing our sleeping hours each night by 1 to 2 hours.
