How Memory Foam REALLY Works

21-09-2011

By now you are sure to have hear of memory foam. Everybody is talking about it, and with good reason. It really is the best mattress material. So much better than spring or traditional foam. The reason it is so much better, the reason that everybody is talking about it is that it moulds itself to your body shape and posture, mirroring your exact form and providing the perfect balance of comfort and support. There is no other mattress material that even comes close, but how does it really work, how does it shape itself to your form and readjust when you move?

Memory foam is made from viscoelastic foam, meaning that it has both viscous and elastic properties when compressed. It is memory foam’s unique composition that gives it this dual quality. Memory foam is made from millions of tiny cells that are hermetically sealed. These cells provide a density that other foams do not have and they also allow memory foam to change shape with heat. As the larger parts of the body are hotter, the memory foam compress more, allowing the torso to sink further into the mattress.  When you move, the heat moves with you and the mattress adjusts itself to match your current posture.
