Fruits to help you sleep well

It seems like every second day we are being told that there is a new and magic sleep remedy being touted as the next big thing and today is no different. Here is a new concoction by an American couple that they believe has the right stuff to give you a good sleep.

It comes in a capsule form and contains three different fruits, passion fruit, cherries, and gogi berries. Apparently the passion fruit helps calm and relax people while the tart cherries help regulate sleep problems and gogi berries help people to wake refreshed.

While some may scoff at this, believing it is simply another means of parting a fool and his money, there is actually some scientific evidence to back this up.  The flower of passion fruit has mild sedative qualities due to alkaloids and can help to induce sleep. Cherries are one of the only natural food sources of melatonin, the main chemical that controls the body’s internal clock to regulate sleep and gogi berries contain magnesium which is another well known mineral that helps with sleep.

Obviously you could eat these fruits rather than taking a pill but their availability can be problematic.
