Can’t sleep because you are stressed? Not enough sleep making you stressed? Sleep and stressed are, unfortunately, entwined. In fact, the more we learn about sleep the more we realise that sleep and stress have massive impacts on one another.
Here is something that has only just been discovered that makes the connection between the two even more worrisome. Did you know that stress is one of the major causes of sleep apnea
The research looked at the connection between stress and sleep apnea, sleep apnea is a condition where the sleeper stops breathing during their sleep. They found that not only was stress one of the major causes of sleep apnea but that the more stressed someone was the worse their sleep apnea got.
Naturally the big problem here is that sleep apnea degrades the quality of a person’s sleep, leaving them feeling tired and irritable the next day. Being tired and irritable means that you are less likely to perform at your best during the day, therefore leaving you more stressed. As this cycle continues the sufferer gets more tired and more stressed, which in turn causes them to get more tired and more stressed.
If you are stressed then you need to make sure it doesn’t impact your sleep, work on what is making you stressed rather than simply fretting about it.
The more stressed you get the worse it will become.
On the land and waters that we sleep, we walk, and we live, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of these lands. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their connection to the land.
